Matthew Warren Lee is a Wisconsin born oil painter, draftsmen, and science support professional who lives and works in Milwaukee. Heavily influenced by art history and his involvement with scientific organizations; paintings and drawings explore scientific, mathematical, historical, and design subjects. Lee was a member of the United States Antarctic Program which included a 13 month stay at the Geographic South Pole for Antarctic winter. The landscapes produced since his involvement in Antarctica feature large telescopes, neutrino detectors, and other scientific mechanisms. Lee is currently involved with the Carthage Institute of Paleontology for whom he has excavated dinosaur bones in Montana's Hell Creek Formation for over a decade. This is the research component of his current body of work which depicts contemporary scientific life, rural landscapes, and Dinosauria. His paintings and drawings have been exhibited throughout the United States including shows in Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago, Cincinnati, Montana, and New York.
Lee is a dedicated educator who taught at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee from 2012-2014, Carthage College from 2014-2015, Alverno College from 2015-2016, and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD).
